There was a time
I had a Father
Now he is long gone
When I think of him and his peccadilloes
I see him singing this empowering song
It tells of him more
I am quite sure than any words he did say
Life is funny in loving remembrance in this way
He was in no ways picture perfect
Nor the strongest bravest good-looking or richest of men
And throughout my toiling father’s life
To some sizable failures he did cop
But he did a mean impersonation of the oncoming agitation
To personification of The WolfMan
Was the biggest Joe Dimaggio led Yankee Fan
And best of all
He was my Pop!
There are little things in me
That remind me of Him
Full stop!
The one exception is I don’t cry
Watching Humphrey Bogart movies on a whim!
As I get older
I realize as I have children of my own
Being a Father
Is much much harder than I had naively realized!
Before I was grown
To all The Fathers” worlwide!
Those that are close to me
And others far far off of the grid
From my Father and I
A heartfelt generational
Casablanca soliloquy
