The Messenger and The Social Gallows
No one likes to pass by homeless people
On the work-bound train
Yet the failure to provide mental health services
Or a social safety net writ large
Will ensure their Metropolitan Transit Authority numbers gain
More pain and stress
Due to the unwillingness
Not much empathy for the “lazy”,
Negative thinkers nor non-praying
To provide funding to clean up!
Or aver more hospital beds and facilities
For the mentally ill inner city mess
It seems the only one who deems these individuals
Worthy?
Is only those who actually knew or knows them
At least at once
Caringly
Better known as Family
These unfortunate souls
As cast-out-of-society “others”
To their economically well-to-do
Non-sisters and brothers
Fathers and mothers
Who will take the time to understand
Or can even comprehend their problems?
Not me or you
i suppose?
It is much easier to judge
Than empathize
This is culturally true of the American
Economic
Individualized competitive soul
My two cents always comes in prose
The receipt for these social ills by way of rhyme in poetry
I am to simply expose
The Messenger is always
The One
Whom ends up receiving the bulk of the arrows
From un-democratic bows
Strung up by the Mob
Plus the Boss
Of course
Else banished to the Social Gallows
