Why Shalt We Remember?

My time is up!
The die has caste

My final hour
Is here at last

I do not aver
To contemplate aghast

Why should we remember?
A time that has past

Do not keep a record
Of the trials I have faced

The times of solitude
Stomped by the boot of errant ways

Why should we remember?
A tortured time and place

Where faced with Decembers
Dashed dreams of warm sun rays

Tis only the timber of my gallant ways!
That I wish recalled of these rainy days

Why should we remember?
The dark cold miserable dank haze!

As the headsman clambers up to his rightful place!

Why should we remember?
Persons stained with unmistakable grace

Why should we remember?
Of those passed on maligned of the human race

Why should we remember?
Can’t we go on the unspoken road to positive living ways?

Shan’t we waste our time on those judged irredeemable strays!

The axe of the executioner is held high and the arms are raised!

Why shalt we remember?

The cost of those who have come before us

Having been dutifully paid

To make this world a better place

Grace!
